Hello everyone,

I just deployed my first fixes and changes on WTM and here is a summary (nothing fancy) :

- fixed awesome button showing solved shots when a tag is specify (even if "include solved shots" was unchecked)
- fixed awesome button showing our own shots (except if a tag is specify and you check include solved shots)
- fixed AUs always having a "hard" difficulty and then cannot be seen with the random button if easy/medium difficulty is checked
- fixed Scruffy shouts don't appear in your home page
- fixed a LOT of errors 500 in favmovies, favcharacters, search (not all), login, register, logout, accept friends...
- removed "about" when its hours ago (and added "ago" in last recent visits", don't important)
- added pagination to the user search & the tag search. Now you don't have to wait forever if you want to search shots with the tag "animation", it's paginate. See : http://whatthemovie.com/search?t=tag&q=animation
- User search is working like the movie search, if one result, it goes directly to the profile
- Admins & Mods shouts can't be deleted from now on your profile, unless It's Scruffy. There were too many people who deleted our shouts when we warn them
- Mentions in spoiler, other profile, contest page, movie page, review, are now handled in your home page and the # of Tales should be correct now
- Fixed "NaN" showing when an user doesn't have upload with favs
- Favmovies now choose the best rating shot in the DB not deleted and with AT LEAST 10 votes. If no one can be found, it takes the first not deleted (like before), and if there is no shot at all in the DB, a "no shot" image will appear on your favmovies page to handle the previous error 500 which was caused by a movie with no shots at all.
- User will be redirected to his rejected shots when he deletes one of them instead of a random shot. That was boring when you wanted to delete more than one shot at the same time, you needed to go back to the settings etc, now if you delete your own shot in the rejected shots section, you will be redirected there after deleting
- You can now login by pressing the "Enter" key in the password input instead of having to click to login everytime
- If a movie doesn't have archive shots BUT has title/end shot, they will appear on the movie page index and they are now counted in the "snapshots total" link. See : http://whatthemovie.com/movie/beowulf_grendel
- fixed Friendships go wrong when somebody (hey Pala!) wants his account back, it was because only friend requests sent were deleted when somebody deletes his account and not the "received" one also
- fixed wrong "days left" for WTM supporters, now you should have the correct number of days left before your subscription expires
- New page for movies with no title shot (just better look and correct URLs) : http://whatthemovie.com/page/titles
- Fixed your total solves number. Before, that was including archive shots where you requested the solution. Bad!
- Fixed friendship does not work when you try to accept one from an user with a "." in his username
- Deleted a LOT of duplicate movies or invisible dupes (movies sharing the same url) or foreign movies with weird urls
- some text fixes here and here
- Added a lock function for movies. I have already locked 129 movies. From now, you will see a lock image on the movie page if the movie is a short, or a tv movie, or a porn/racist movie etc and you won't be able to upload shots from these movies. See :

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5990/capturedcran20110418031.png

http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/5990/capturedcran20110418031.png

If you see any movie on WTM which is not locked and should be, please leave a shout on my profile about it and i'll add it to the locked movies.

So, let's make a topic where everybody can just tell stuff and/or discuss it. Basically, if you want to discuss something non-movie related, or you're happy because you got a raise, sad because your bike has a flat tire or you found this great new beer: shout it out loud!

For me, today I broke my phone. The screen randomly decided to die, while it was in my pocket and I was sitting still. No idea what happened, but it was about time I renewed my contract and got a new phone, so now I ordered a Galaxy S2 (and my parents can't complain that I still had a perfectly good phone ;)). Also, I am really looking forward to saturday: first bat catching of the year for me! I just hope the weather will get a bit better.

What have you guys been up to?

recently i watched the movie and missed one shot. I thought, damn i missed the best shot: http://whatthemovie.com/shot/211989 Thought ok, the shot is at imdb to see, at the cover backside to see and at amazon to see, i definitly just missed in the movie. So far so good, but today another user of wtm asked me, if i seen the shot in the movie, so we are now 2 people have missed this shot...

my edition of the movie http://www.amazon.de/Unsere-Erde-Blu-ray-Alastair-Fothergill/dp/B001ASEJ0I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1336830236&sr=8-2 got a run time of 99 minutes of the main movie, and additional 140 minutes extras (maybe its just there to see?). Imdb helps not much, there are only editions with shorter runtime to see with 90/96 minutes in the infos. I found nothing about a directors cut or something else at some fast investigation.

So the question: can somebody tell me please at which time the shot is in the main movie to see? And maybe can describe which movie edition (s)he buyed with what entire run time.

Christian Marclay's "Telephones" (1995), a 7 1/2-minute compilation of brief Hollywood film clips that creates a narrative of its own. These linked-together snippets of scenes involve innumerable well-known actors such as Cary Grant, Tippi Hedren, Ray Milland, Humphrey Bogart and Meg Ryan, who dial, pick up the receiver, converse, react, say good-bye and hang up. In doing so, they express a multitude of emotions--surprise, desire, anger, disbelief, excitement, boredom--ultimately leaving the impression that they are all part of one big conversation. The piece moves easily back and forth in time, as well as between color and black-and-white, aided by Marclay's whimsical notions of continuity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH5HTPjPvyE

If you know a similar movie, please feel free to share it here. :)

 Hello Happy WTM players :)

As you must have heard with the latest Tliff and Naut announcement, between our official contests, there will be some side quests in the Vault section.

The principle of these side quests will be quite similar to the normal contests: you will need to vote and solve the shots and the best rated shots and best solvers will be rewarded
The difference lies in the content of the quest. We will not ask you to upload any new shots. The side quest master will decide on what this quest should be about: it can be that he/she will upload a all new serie or that he/she will chose a theme and pick up pictures in the new Feature Film part and move them to the vault.

If he/she chose to pick up shots from FF, It is important to know that if your shots get chosen, you will lose your upload point, you will not lose a point for solving it however. But instead, you will get a contest point and the possibility, if your shot gets in the top 10, to get rewarded. We actually made a new agreement with Naut which I'm sure will make some of you happy, these are the new rewards for contests:

1st = 15 awesome uploads
2nd = 10 awesome uploads
3rd = 5 awesome uploads
4th and 5th = 2 awesome uploads
6th till 10th = 1 awesome upload

I'm sure you want to know who will be the Side Quest Master, well, to start with, this week, I will be your master :) but you never know, we might decide to reward some of you in the future and give you this awesome temporary privilege!

I have already decided of a theme so do not be surprised if some of your shots desapear from the FF in the coming days, it may be because it has been chosen for the contest, I cannot tell you the theme just yet :)

Another thing I would like to clarify because there was some questions before regarding the risk of dupes: if a shot has been uploaded for a contest or moved for a side quest, the same shot can NOT be reposted in the new submission, these will be considered dupes and will be deleted. Naut and Tliff will soon update the uploading page so that these shots also appear when you try to add a new shot.

That's it! I hope I was clear enough

If you have some questions, dont hesitate :)

The penis (plural penises, penes) is a biological feature of male animals including both vertebrates and invertebrates. It is a reproductive, intromittent organ that additionally serves as the urinal duct in placental mammals.
The word "penis" is taken from the Latin word for "tail." Some derive that from Indo-European pesnis, and the Greek word πέος = "penis" from Indo-European pesos. Prior to the adoption of the Latin word in English the penis was referred to as a "yard". The Oxford English Dictionary cites an example of the word yard used in this sense from 1379,and notes that in his Physical Dictionary of 1684, Steven Blankaart defined the word penis as "the Yard, made up of two nervous Bodies, the Channel, Nut, Skin, and Fore-skin, etc."
The Latin word "phallus" (from Greek φαλλος) is sometimes used to describe the penis, although "phallus" originally was used to describe images, pictorial or carved, of the penis.
The adjectival form of the word penis is penile. This adjective is commonly used in describing the male copulatory organ's various accessory structures that are commonly found in many kinds of invertebrate animals.
As with nearly any aspect of the human body that is involved in sexual or excretory functions, the word penis is considered humorous from a juvenile perspective, and there are many slang words and euphemisms for the penis.

In film, a shot is a continuous strip of motion picture film, created of a series of frames, that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. Shots are generally filmed with a single camera and can be of any duration. A shot in production, defined by the beginning and end of a capturing process, is equivalent to a clip in editing, defined as the continuous footage between two edits. Frames, shots, clips, scenes, and sequences form a hierarchy of units fundamental to many tasks in the creation of moving-image works.
The etymology of the term "shot" derives from the early days of film production when camera were hand-cranked. Hand-cranked cameras operated similarly to the hand-cranked machine guns of that era. Therefore, one "shot" film the way one would "shoot" bullets from a machine gun.

A mission is a task or job that someone is given to do.

We think it is time to say THANK YOU! to everyone who is keeping our mission up. We know, it is not always easy. Most of the people, who wanna see the mission dead are the ones who-ironically-are controled by their dicks themself. :)

We want an equal treatment of both sexaul organs! No more suppression of penises!

We have decided to reward our loyal combatans with awesome uploads. Because we can goddamnit!
You have uploaded a penis shot, and tagged it as "penis shot mission"? Then post the link to your shot here. Even if it was a rejected shot, we don´t care, we want them all :)

Bazzy3000 and me will pick the 1th, 2nd and 3rd best shot and reward it with 12, 9 and 6 AUs.
Deadline is the 13th of February 2011.

Let´s start a revolution!

Regards,
olympiquetango and bazzy3000

The main character is a luckless Caucasian male in his late 30’s. A limousine hit him with the owner sitting in the backseat. They took him home and cared for his wounds. Several instances show powerful leaders of other countries visiting the mansion. The wealthy man later passes away. A few men attend the funeral. The tomb resembles, The All Seeing Eye pyramid. The main character inherits his fortune, power and later marrying his widowed wife.
The setting is a huge mansion with one glass room that has pure oxygen and The All Seeing Eye pyramid tomb.

Thanks all!

 Hello everyone,

I would just like to tell you, that from today on I quit being a mod. I have discussed this thoroughly with both Zob and kinoute, and we agree that it's time I took a step back.

The years since I started modding have been fun, I really enjoyed playing this game, solving, uploading, cleaning the database by changing movie entries, adding alt. titles and replacing shots, but most of all I enjoyed being able to help you guys out, and let you have more fun on the site.
But now, things have changed: I no longer enjoy this site as much as I used to, due to various reasons, and I also find myself too tired to start up WTM and check NS, etc. I have a lot of things on my mind, and with the fieldwork-season starting again (most of you might now I do ecological research, which means catching mice, bats, etc., causing me to be outside for a lot of time, having no sleep patterns and traveling a lot), this will also cost me a lot of time, so this seems like the right moment to make this decision.

I hope you all will enjoy WTM for many more years, get your shots accepted and solve lots of shots. If you want to contact me, I'll still check my profile occasionally, but for now, it's goodbye.

Thanks for the good times!

Asmo

PS: This does not mean that you can now just randomly start applying to be my replacement, a new mod will be picked by the team, in consultation with me.

As you know, Google offers a great feature that can match an uploaded image to a huge database, giving you almost the title of a film when you upload a shot from a DVD.
This service can give you an important % of solves in a game like WTM.

This is cheating. And it's killing the game !

Nobody can't do anything about this problem, not even the moderators.
So, as RDPL55 or my self, if you feel frustrated by this situation, you can feel relieved writing a short sentence in your profile's "About you" part.

It surely will not change anything, but that's better than nothing ! :)

 Hey everyone,

The staff has realized that there are no clear guidelines for title shots. We have been thinking, and the following came out:

Title shots should preferably be presented in the original language (or english, if the the original language seems too hard to get).

For start titles: The first occurrence of the movie title in the movie. In some cases, this is only in the end credits, but this is also fine.

For end title shots, it is a bit more complicated, since there is a bit of variation in this per movie. The order of preference is as follows:
1) "The End"/"Fin"/"To Be Continued", etc.
2) 2nd occurrence of the title of the movie (if this is in the end credits, and the opening title has a seperate shot)
3) "Directed by..." (from the end credits only)
4) "And they lived happily ever after" or any text of that kind
5) "In loving memory of..." or similar
6) Anything from closing credits (cast, crew, ...)

Also, remember that this does NOT mean that you can't upload title shots as regular shots: if they are awesome and quiz-worthy, you are free to upload them via NS/awesome upload, and then assign the shot as soon as it hits the archive.

For title shots already in the system (and we mean shots uploaded as title shots, *not* shots assigned as title shots), the original uploader gets the chance to replace this shot, until sept. 1st, after which everybody can replace title shots that do not fit the guidelines. So please, do not tag any shot replaceplease, or replace them yourself, before this date.
Archive shots that don't match the criteria above and have been assigned as title shots will be unassigned.

If there are any questions, your friendly neighbourhood mods are always around :)

Have fun!
