    @ theoffice !!! Incredible !! If I knew that i'd have gave a better note ;)

"Breakout" (1975) This Tom Gries Adventure movie is made for Charles Bronson. The casting is quite good with Jill Ireland, Robert Duvall, John Huston himself, Emilio Sanchez... It is inspired from a real escape of a Mexican prison... Entertaining but without any surprise 7/10

"3:10 to Yuma" (2007)... well, if has a nice photography it's made a bit oldfashion (a good point) the actors can be good at some moments. But was it usefull to do the remake 50 years after ? There are more action and events but very often useless or ridiculous... when Russel Crowe kill all his gang and go in the train as a good psychopath... when all the citizens of the town want to kill the law representants... of course it happens very often in the wild west... There was more sobriety in the Daves's movie, Glen Ford was'nt a Psychopath (He did'nt have to... what for ??) just a criminal with a certain sense of honnor and so on... Sure, now a movie have to give more (the character of the son for teenage public, more action (more characters so more potential deads), more "psychology" for explanations, I found it sometimes a bit speacky...) but more is not always better. So well made but not very interresting, should I say useless. 6,5/10.

The Horsemen - 3/10 - the beginning and one of the murders were nicely done and the whole premise was interesting, but the rest of the movie is silly, especially the forced twist and the resolution to the mystery
Hannibal - 55/100 - very good score by Hans Zimmer, nice cinematography, incredible make up job (what they did to Gary Oldman in this movie remains one of the most disturbing disfigurations I've ever seen) and fantastic performance by Hopkins, too bad the entire plot is rather ridiculous and the whole thing is much too gory and convulted. But I'm kinda glad they changed novel's ending.
Never let me go, 83/100 - Beautiful story and interesting meditation on mortality, fantastic work by Carey Malligan, Keira Knightley was also very good and Andrew Garfield apart from one scene remains one of the most overrated young actors. He's incredibly annoying here and the child actor who plays young Tommy is actually far better than he was. Beautiful cinematography and music and really fascinating idea, my advice is for all of you not to read anything about this movie prior to watching it because the big surprise will be revealed by Sally Hawkings's character and it has the power to break your heart. I'd rate the movie better but I'm not sure if what I saw was intended effect - either Tommy didn't love Kathy, which was well presented by Garfield or he was supposed to love her in which he failed miserably. Anyways the movie is definetly in my top 10 of the year.

Yes, it's pure B movie but the special effects (Gordon did it) are quite good for the time... and the whole is very pleasant to watch. 7/10.

"How to make a Monster" (1958) sort of Swan song of the horror movies of the 50's, this small Herbert L. Strock's movie tell the story of a master monster make-up man who's fired and revenge by using his art transforming the actors of his last movie in monster-killers by using a secret cream... It's very fun to see all old monsters (especially the Teennage frankenstein and the Teenage Werewolf)... At hte end the room with all the heads of the monster burns, the movie pass from b&w to color... the end of an era... nice for B fans only 8/10.

"Blood of Dracula" (1957) of the same Herbert L. Strock, the movie deals wih a privite school for young girls in wich a chemistry teacher makes some strange experiment and turn the new coming girl into a blood thirsty vampire... the number of corpses begins to increase dramaticaly... and the police seems armless... a sort of mix between teenage and horror movie with a scene of songs and dance in the dormitory very kitsh... 7/10.

Somehow I'm not surprised you didn't like Somewhere. It has a certain emptiness you do not seem to be too fond of. :-) Actually I also liked Marie Antoinette because of its shallowness; the historical figure transformed into a superficial being only interested in surface matters - I found that amusing and it doubled nicely in the aesthetics of the film. On the contrary, I did not like Virgin Suicides too much. I read the book shortly before seeing the movie and that's usually catastrophic for a film. :-)

I watched Somewhere (2010), too, a few days ago. I loved it and never was bored the whole movie. I think Sofia Coppola did a great job in giving me the feeling I really could watch the life of the main character. That made it realistic and very touching. Yes, the movie is slow (and she warns everybody with the first shot of the movie), but that's what it needs to show how shallow and empty his life is. We were about 50 people in the theatre and nobody left early. (7/10)
@theoffice911: Since you didn't like the movie you should never watch The Brown Bunny which pushes this kind of movie even further.

I also watched Stella Dallas (1937) in cinema. The story about the true love of a mother who sets her wishes aside to give her daughter better chances in life is a little bit old fashioned but the movie is very well done (directed by King Vidor). However, the movie is already worth to watch because of the absolutely stunning performance of Barbara Stanwyck. It's one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen. I was truly touched and I found that quite difficult regarding the old-fashioned story. (8/10)

As a low I encountered The Tourist (2010). That's a movie I was bored from the beginning to the end. The story is predictably and the acting jobs of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are quite mediocre. How this movie got 3 Golden Globe nominations is a mystery to me. Especially the nomination as best musical or comedy has to be joke since the movie is neither a musical nor a comedy nor any good. The nominations of Jolie and Depp can at least be explained with the need for a higher star factor at the ceremony. (3/10)

127 Hours - 84/100 - wonderful movie about the strength of one person's will to survive. Powerful ending and so far the best performance by lead actor in a drama from last year - James Franco. He was amazing, it was heartbreaking at times and he really captured many emotions in the movie. I have to warn everybody, though - I'm not easily grossed out person and I can watch movies like Hostel, Saw etc. without looking away, but this film has one of the most unpleasant and intense scenes I saw, I actually felt a bit faint and dizzy at one point. Oh and once the movie gets released on DVD there will be tons of shots here, it's really beautifully shot.

The Fountain - without any doubt a visual and artistic masterpiece, with (again) a wonderful score and perfect directing. I'm truly impressed by Aronofsky's work, I'm becoming a big fan of him. The whole movie is such an intense experience, with its parallel stories and a complicated plot. It is sometimes really hard to follow it and there have been some things left unexplained, which makes it slightly weaker than A Requiem for a Dream, although it is once again a beauty which captures you from its very beginning. 8,5/10

"Another Year" (2010). Very moving and interresting movie of Mike Leigh. Very good acting... perhaps it will be boring and without storyline (but does life has ??) for some but I think if you have a bit life behind you... you should appreciate this movie. Some pointed the lack of depth or the issensibility of some characters but I just think that Leigh shows the results of the society on people (on a generation here), that perclude the expression of thier true personality and feelings, sometimes to try to preserve themselves from reality... Intersting and often disturbing. 9/10.
P.S. As you can notice, I don't watch only oldies... when it's worth of watching I can make an effort... ;)
