I’m waiting for the first dissertation on the subject.

If anyone’s planning to write his master thesis or similar on WTM I’m honored to give an interview :)

I'd really be interested in that shot with ~2700 solved too, though

Two of my uploads got more than 2000 solves. Both are from the same trilogy:
    http://whatthemovie.com/shot/45127 : 2232 solves
    http://whatthemovie.com/shot/42433 : 2156 solves

    Nice graph @tliff
    Two comments on it:
I think the x-axis should be solves, not votes.
If the above is correct, then the graph still is not realistic for the reason krukev said two days ago.
It would be even more interesting to see the number of solves from the accepted shots, immediately after they are accepted to the FF.
Dunno if that's possible, but then you can really say something about the influence of the easyness/well-knownness of the shot on the rating.

well-knownness is not a correct word I think, but you now what I mean:)

Edit: I will think about writing a thesis about WTM:)

I have a shot with 2500+ solves :), nice one:
    http://whatthemovie.com/shot/44891 : 2569 solves

and then I could find 2 with 2000+ solves:
    http://whatthemovie.com/shot/49059: 2050 solves
    http://whatthemovie.com/shot/35486: 2152 solves

Shame on me having so many easy shots, but i definitely also have a lot of hard ones ( I believe that I'm mostly uploading tricky shots ;) )

I have two thoughts on tliff's graph.

First: There seems to be heteroskedasticity with the ratings which means the ratings of hard shots (with low number of solves) are more dispersed. They got a higher variance. This might be because they also tend to get lower votes which can easily let you with a very low or very high rating. For easier shots with more votes this evens out. That's why their ratings are more or less all between 7 and 9, while those of the ones with lower solves vary between 3 and 10.

Second: I see one red spot (approved shot) at the rating of around 3 at about 100 solves. I think this will be Asmodai's black shot ( http://whatthemovie.com/shot/44762 ). Congrats to Asmodai for probably having the lowest ranked shot in the database :P

P.S.: I never thought I ever could use the word heteroskedasticity here :D

    and not this one

although they are from the same movie that I have not seen :)

If there already is a topic about it, just tell me.

Just a suggestion: Maybe WTM could increase the chances of a snapshot with few solves by giving invisible extra points for snapshots of a movie that has no snapshots on WTM yet.

In addition to my first comments, I'll say that shots from animated movies are much more easy to pass. Up to now all my uploads were successful, even if they are not so easy to solve, and even if I personally think that they are not always as "awesome" as many of my rejected shots. 2 more this night :)

Well, animated movies are drawn by hand or computer, so the director can make every frame look the way he wants it to look, that's why animated movies got alot of nice shots.
I posted one shot 2 times, quite high ratings but didn't pass with a 7,97 and 7,90 respectively. Finally I decided to spend an Awesome Upload on it, since I really like the shot and the ambience: #71372

Agree that alot of animated shots pass through (too imho) easily

I think the number of solves is direct related to the ratings. I've posted this shot before http://whatthemovie.com/shot/75008 (and aparently will be reject again), it gets a very high rating for a few solves shot, but if it was a big blockbuster, I garantee that the rating would be more than 8,00 easily.
