I just read the entire topic and realized that my Matrix shot was replaced by Zythux. http://whatthemovie.com/shot/52272

I'm not mad or anything, this one does look better, but it was a DVD shot, was the quality really that bad?
And there's also this one http://whatthemovie.com/shot/24315 , which was also a DVD shot and I can't see such a big improvement.

Were these shots really that bad they needed to be replaced? Were they replaced by blu-ray shots?

Open them on seperate tabs in your browser, and flick between them. Your shot was pretty bad in comparison. If it was from DVD I would be asking for my money back. And your shot had a big black bar along the top. Asmodai's shot is a DVD shot, not BD.

In this particular case the update was a huge improvement. The matrix one though, I'm not so sure.
  2.  permalink
Yeah, I guess you're right... I never noticed the black bar before and the shot does look better. Sorry for complaining so much, then. =)

But I can assure you it's a DVD shot. Maybe it's a crappy DVD and maybe I should have asked for my money back, but it's a DVD shot.

EDIT: I just took the shot again to have a look and it didn't look as crappy as the first one. Are there any other reasons for bad quality? Like the program I was using at the time or anything like that?

Possibly the program you used at the time saved the shot as a compressed jpg, instead of png, that can effect the outcome.

OK, I replaced some Dreamer shots.
    1) the promo shot #2232 ( http://whatthemovie.com/shot/2232 ) with the closest match I found on the DVD:

    2) the shot agonistes put on the list (#1101 http://whatthemovie.com/shot/1101 ):

    3) one of my shots which was from I time I didn't own the DVD yet :( (#15305 http://whatthemovie.com/shot/15305 ). A slight improvement is notable:

I'm sorry for replacing your matrix-shot, I replaced it because the other one looked better, but I didn't realise it came from a Blu-ray. I thought it had been reverted by the mods, but guess something went wrong there...

The problem with From Dusk till Dawn is that there are some crappy DVD's out there (my version being one of them), so most of the shots you want replaced are still DVD-quality, and that is what matters. I replaced some of the shots you gave replacements for, though, because the originals there really were bad and I doubt they were from DVD, but the last two really were DVD-quality, so I let them stay. But thanks, keep them coming guys, day 1 is looking much better already!

Razzomega, @ Jumper, can you find a non-blurry shot that still has that guy with his vacuum cleaner? Doesn't have to be the exact pose, just something close to it. I wouldn't replace it with the one you got now, that's just too blurry.

Judging from its size, it's not distorted.

I think whoever use the "replaceplease" tag should add a shout explaining why, especially when the reason isn't that obvious.
That's what I do for most of the shots I replace.

For instance, I'm not sure what's wrong with this Minority Report shot http://whatthemovie.com/shot/9 There are a few artefacts, but that's DVD quality IMHO. I think we'll only get a noticeable improvement if we update it to a Blu-ray shot... and we already agree that we do NOT replace good DVD shots with Blu-ray ones.
