Some of you may have noticed a very bad change on imdb a few days ago : The movie titles are now all in english (aka "international title") and the original title is only mentioned in small characters as "original title". I find this very confusing and the sign of an unbearable cultural imperialism. In addition all the posters and dvd jackets are the US ones of course. See for example :
I checked the site. It is now the default behaviour and the only available for non registered users. Registered users can choose an option to have the old behaviour with the original title first. Of course there are many protestations on the forum.
actually, not that much of an issue for me now, I just found the option in my imdb site preferences to set it to original. All efji's links show the original title for me now.
It's a pity ! When you type Rivette or Pasolini you get all the filmography in english, it's purely ridiculous and pathetic. Imdb aimed to be an international tool and reference, it's no more... the all in english should be optional, not default. It's a kind of negation of other's culture, language... Soon poeple will belive that Renoir or সত্যজিত রায় (Satyajit Ray) are American directors... sad I changed my preferences... sad to do that
okay, that indeed sucks big time. No reason whatsoever to do that. Crappy change in my opinion. Maybe we (as the WTM community) can send in some kind of "we think this is a crappy change" message to the IMDB staff?
Go to your account page (at the top of the page) then to "Personalize" and "update your ste préferences" at Title display default: chose original. That's done !!
