    It strikes me that lately the activity of users is very low. Very few snapshots are uploaded. Does this spell the end for WTM? I hope not, because I still think it's a really fun game. Is there anything we can do about this?
    Who else notices this?

    Yours sincerely,

    The activity on WTM has been on a decline for years. Back in the day there were hundreds of solves on a single shot, or even more than a thousand. Take this one for example #115071 (https://whatthemovie.com/shot/115071).

    I stopped playing between 2011 and 2013, continued playing until November of 2013 and then stopped playing again until mid 2019. The difference in activity I witnessed was MASSIVE. It sucks but I'm happy to see a handful of the original players still uploading and solving shots. It'd be a good idea to get the word out about this site but I don't want this to be just another quiz site either. But more players are definitely welcome!

    I agree with everything you say, guys. I am not a specialist but I can just guess a few things:
    - 10 years ago, the game was new and new things cause more attention and excitement.
    -There were far more players, probably as a consequence of my first point but also because the game was far easier: Omar, I checked the page you quote as an example. 80% of the shots are from blockbusters, from Pirates of the Caribbean to the Shining, Jurassic Park, Alice in Wonderland, and when it comes to "classics", we have "Wizard of Oz, Modern Times and M". No wonder there are so many solves.
    -Consequently, I've come to think that some players have just grown tired, others (among which people I know)have stopped because they don't like playing, they like winning. As soon as it gets a bit difficult, they give up.
    -Finally, fewer and fewer people (especially young people) watch movies. they watch series.

    I don't know if my points are relevant and even if they are if doesn't help much to find new players.
    A final (personal) point. For some reason, I can't play on my new phone though I've tried evrything I could. If the game is not easily available on new devices, it could be a problem.
    Happy end of the year everyone!

    Interresting discussion! A long time ago I started to gather datas showing the inexorable fall of WTM, and predicting its death around 2023. We are there. And the causes are quite well known: too many rules, too many cops, no fun.

    A circle close or all calls by their prenoms and this congratulent between them, a group that rejects any new player by the vote, the exclusion of the putting in favorites and the non thanking which is yet systematic between them, They’ve been at home and with each other forever after everything! All this announces the imminent death of the site, even if this famous circle makes him mouth to mouth for several years, it also etrangle at the same time!

    If you wanted to give me a fav I’d thank you like I always do( when I see it :-))! Indeed, personely, my tendency is to congratul more often those who congratules me and by that seems to apreciate my choices and not those who never had a kind gesture toward my shots or me in my 9 years of activity. It's human I think..

    @Dejamort.
    I don't know what you are talking about. A close circle? Anybody can join and upload and most of the time when we spot a new player we send a message of welcome. Then, if we know some by their first name, it's because we have been playing together for quite some time but it doesn't mean we reject the others. WE are always glad to exchange with new players. But I and YOU must admit that if the uploaders are a "circle", it's because many players just want to browse and solve and never upload anything. It's perfectly their right but the game DEPENDS on uploaders. I can't see why a bunch of "friends" necessarily strangle and exludes others or even why you feel excluded. Really I'd like to know and understand. Obviously we haven't the same tastes, the same opinions and it doesn't stop us from exchanging our views. On social medias people tend to meet only people like them. WTM is different. We accept different tastes, uploads of films we hate (and sometimes very good shots!). I am not a big fan of horror movies but if I downvoted on every shot from horror movies (up to 40% of all the FF sometimes) it would be stupid. I don't know the ratings on your shots but we all have our share of bad ratings.
    Have a good day everyone!
