@guustflaterke I left a shot about this on tliff's profile. Hopefully he will be able to fix it. The DB entry with the "3" in it should be deleted.
@castaka The IMDb link never existed, their DB hasn't reach those numbers yet. I guess it's a random number typed in by the guy who created the duplicate movie entry in WTM DB.
i think http://whatthemovie.com/shot/69197 is a dupe of http://whatthemovie.com/shot/64553 i didn't solve both shots before and just saw them at the movie page. I'm sorry for the uploader, cause it's a bit late, but really think it a dupe. Dont understand why nobody saw this before...
http://whatthemovie.com/shot/77803 and http://whatthemovie.com/shot/72489 are dupes in my opinion, it says in the rules no uploading of same or similair shots, these two shots are similair, and i consider them dupes. I tried vote deleting, but someone removed my vote deletion. hence the bump on the topic.
Most people don't think it are dupes, so I guess not. The similar shots I mean are in the archive already, so if you solved the shots you can see what I mean. Just wanted to say it's always hard to decide if a shot is a dupe or not. Everyone has his own opinion if it's too similar to another shot or not.
@ pspan, thats what i tried to do on the first go, but as i said, my deletion vote got deleted. I've seen this happen a few times before with shots i put a deletion vote on.
http://whatthemovie.com/shot/83626 http://whatthemovie.com/shot/78264 The shots are not really the same, but at uploading it says: 'Don't upload a Snapshot from the same scene or with similar content (e.g. the same character).' So it this allowed or not? I also shouted at the newest one, but probably no one looks at that.
@Maxi characters/scene/background are different. what i've learned recently: it only counts as a dupe if everything is similar: scene, characters, point of view, etc.
that's a strange definition.. why dupes are forbidden? I think to avoid solving a shot without making thoughts about it and that's a little bit too easy (if I do not know the movie). Not only because the shot already exists in the archive.. then it really has to be the identical shot. In that case it's clear! My opinion! :D Wahh.. that's weird.
You can solve lots of shots by archive. Like a yellow minivan has like 5 shots here over at WTM. Also I says don't upload the same character twice. Well this one is fairly the same. Green dress and doing some magic. If you would upload twice an invisible man I wouldn't care, but here you can easily see both shots are the same character. Maybe not the same scene but OK.
I'm sorry for having caused a discussion about my shot. As I mentioned on the shot's page the other shot was not in the overview when I uploaded mine, I checked them carefully. Maybe because it was still in feature films? So I am lucky not to have uploaded the exact same shot again ..
Besides this problem I always thought dupes were shots of the same scene (or scenes that look exactly like another one). But maybe I'm wrong in that.
To take an example of krukevs own shots: #82386 is the same character as #8139 - same glasses, same haircut and similar clothes. In both occasions he is shown centered in the shot in a prison cell with pictures on the wall behind him while he is facing the camera. But in my eyes it is clearly another shot cause of the camera angle and the hole in the older shot. One may ask the necessity of this second shot, but this decision is up to the people who vote it high or the mods who like it enough to push it through.
So what? If my shot doesn't get deleted there will be two shots on the movie page of the same witch doing her green witchstuff to different people. So visitors will know there is a hell of a lot green witching in this movie. Not nice, but we will survive ;)
PS: I have to admit the character in the background of #83880 is also featured in several previously uploaded shots.
OK, then your right. But if you know to solve the witch, you also can solve the other. They are really alike. Only you see her, well, her mirror image. I just wanted to know if this is seen as dupes, as the explanation says you can't have the same character, but I think the exact same shot or set-up shouldn't be allowed. However, it's better to have the moderators or boss much more clear on this: I still don't get it 100% what is allowed and what not.
Well.. where exactly is the problem with dupes? Can somebody specify it? Maybe as a new rule... If we delete _identical_ shots and sustain all other remaining shots (even if they have some similarities) I would resign to this fact. And just to be honest.. I don't think that there are any issues with solving similar looking shots for a 2nd time. No wave making dupe discussions anymore, haha. ;-))
I don't agree with that. I don't like to solve 10 shots of the same scene, because they're all slightly different. The great variety in shots and movies is the main reason I like WTM so much.
I think it works just fine the way it is now. There should not be similar shots. What's the point ? What's the fun in solving the same shots over and over ?
If a similar shot is already there, just move on, try to upload another shot, from a different scene or a different movie. If you think your shot is different enough, upload it and explain why. Users and mods will decide. That's what NS is for.
The reason it will and should be a neverending discussion, is that each case is different. 90% of the shots deleted for dupes are judgement calls, because you can't phrase a rule that would work for all possibilities.
But what about the Little Miss Sunshine shots I gave above? The shot is almost the same. I do agree it is not the same, but only the girl and woman are changed. The rest of the shot is exactly the same. People that know this then have two solves, whereas others missed two. There are already 7 shots with the bus, most are really different, but I believe those are too much same. Open it in two tabs and change between them. You see it changes only the woman and girl. What is the point in uploading shots that are so alike. The shot probably contains much more nice shots.
Are blatant dupes imo. The 2nd shot is vastly better quality though, and I would ask that someone with the movie replaces http://whatthemovie.com/shot/13529 :)
Yeah, that one should be replaced, and there is no point in deleting one now as they are both in archive. But it is good to know what is (IN ABOUT) a dupe and to have the opinion of a mod.
That's just my opinion. ;) I don't know how it happened actually. Back in 2008, shots were approved by admins. One of them must have approved the 1st one and another the 2nd.
How about #84588? Since it's a NS i'll not post the other one, you can just find the other one on the movie page. But it's a shot with the same green things. IMO #84588 is waaaay better, but I think it's a dupe. Or what is the regulation here?
EDIT: I did not notice that pspan and lordmyst had the same discussion on the shotpage.
It contains the same green things, but the other also has a character. So this one is 'more quiz material' as MisterZob put it. It wouldn't treat this as a dupe, but it is definitely hard to draw a line.
Hmm, let's make something clear. If there is a case of dupe shots, this always means that the later shot gets removed (unless there are extra circumstances). I sometimes see people saying "but the later one is better!" or "the first one isn't that good quality!". This is no reason to delete a perfectly fine shot that just was first.
Not pointing any fingers here, just something I noticed a few times on dupe shot-discussions ;)
