Yeah Blue Velvet is iconic :) For me it's Dune 5/10 LH - 6/10 Fire Walk with Me - 7/10 Wild at Heart 9/10 Blue Velvet 9/10 Mulholland Drive 10/10
I never saw Eraserhead and Inland Empire, because I'm too scared, I heard "Straight story" is boring, but I'm watching "Elephant Man" for the first time tonight ^^
Really? I heard "Elephant Man" is such a moving movie and it makes people cry, well I probably will - I almost cried at the end of "Inception" it takes that little to move me:D
+ La journée de la jupe (2008) --> 7/10 Great movie! Difficult topic ("Entre les Murs" gone wild lol) Adjani put on weight but didn't lose her talent (César of Best Actress)
There are so many movies I still have to see. I have to see some of the Lynch movies you mentioned. Problem is that I usually watch with my husband and he doesn't like that kind of movies. I might have to send him on a holiday for a few weeks :-)
I hosted Woody Allen evening instead: Hannah and her sisters - 9/10 amazing movie and the journey Allen's character goes through in the movie is something I relate to Crimes and Misdemeanors 85/100 - great film, but watching it i gonna make "Match Point" look worse Annie Hall - 87/100 - hilarious and elegant, no wonder it's his most important film
Tonight it's gonna be my favorite "Love and death", "Bullets over Broadway" and "Manhattan":)
+ Cypher (2002) --> 4/10 / I liked the cinematography but I thought the script really sucked... + Nothing (2003) --> 6/10 / Funny weird movie! + King Kong (1933) --> 8/10 / Can't believe it was made in 1933!!! it's so modern! And it's shorter than the 2005 version which was way too long in my opinion!
Reminded me quite much of Walk the Line, which was a bit better in my opinion (gave it an 8/10 that time)
Nevertheless Crazy Heart is a neat little movie, with a good message and I liked the soundtrack as well which is quite important for a music film.
The Oscar for Jeff Bridges for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" is debatable i guess...but i think he got it anyway as a reward for his whole career and maybe not particular for this certain movie.
I rate my movies as to what I expect from them and what it delivers, therefore this gets 10 out of 10 because it is what you expect it to be and really good at that: mindless violence, good jokes and just decent fun.
Damn I should have rated Inception 6/10 if I had such system :) I want to see Machete, I like Rodriguez flicks and enjoyed Planet Terror a lot, Death Proof not so much ^^
The Hours very good drama and wonderfull story telling 8/10
Dogtooth WTF!!!?? EXCELLENT! This movie pushes one by one all the doors of the morally unacceptable. It's weird but fantastic! If you loved movies such as "Sitcom" (Ozon) or "the Idiots" (van Trier), you will for sure love this one, also if you like the sobriety and the messages of some Haneke's movies. But dont watch it if you get easily disturbed ;) 9/10
Get Him to the Greek - 78/100- the funniest comedy since "The Hangover" - I love Russell Brand and Jonah Hill and they are hilarious together. The movie also has very surprising roles from serious actresses Elizabeth Moss and Rose Byrne. Awesome soundtrack, funny dialogues and very entertaining plot.
+ The Town (2010) : Great movie! As I really liked "Gone Baby Gone" (9/10) I had to check the last Ben Affleck. Cool action scenes on the street (Heat-style) and the characters are well written. Jeremy Renner stole the show to Ben though --> 7/10
Star Trek well, the story was crap, I mean there was simply not enough story and every bit was predictable. Luckily visually it is nice but that's about it 6.5/10
The Cremator from Juraj Herz Another awesome one. Brilliant, gripping and horrific atmosphere, haunting music and superb filming. One of the kind 8.5/10
Life During Wartime from Todd Solondz I love Todd Solondz, love his sharp sense of humour and his unic way to depict the american moralities and taboos. But unfortunately, this movie was a desapointment First, it is sequel of Happiness, why would he make a sequel of his own movie? and his most cult movie. Dont touch this movie please! It didn't need a sequel and especially NOT with different actors The cast is different and far from been at the level of the one of Happiness. Happiness is one of my favorite movie, it is hilarious. Life during war time failed to make me laugh, it is lacking punch, and repeating almost the same scenes as Happiness were just a bit anowing and a total lack of originality. Maybe Todd Solondz has nothing new to say... If it is your first Solondz movie, you will probably like it but it is just a fade copy
+ Iron Man 2 (2010) : It's entertaining but I find it kinda shallow. Plus I didn't find Scarlett attractive and that pissed me off... I gave the first one a 6/10 so I'll give this one a --> 5/10 I'm not a superhero movie fan anyway.
The American - I agree with JohannaP. The movie is slow, but in a good way imo ;) Clooney is great again, the cinematography and the score fits perfect... i really enjoyed the movie.
Deadgirl Far from been a masterpiece, there is however some interesting things in this little horror flick. The acting is average and the teanager story around it is just plain anowing. But the atmosphere and the overal ideas are really nice 6.8/10
Just finished The Others (2001), don't know why I didn't watch it before! Though I already knew the plot twist it still surprised me a lot :) It was all very well done, everything made such a sense... 9/10
