Just watched the last episode of I, Claudius. Fantastic series, even though it's that old it lacks none of what "Rome" had to offer, and I loved Rome ;)
It wasn't great but it had some good scenes and a nice soundtrack. Johnny Depp was good as alway but Christian Bale was totally replaceable, just a big name but nothing more.
Edit: Oh wait, "Public Enemies" was the last movie I've watched in the cinemas. "Heat" was my last movie (watched it on DVD). I wanted to see it again because "Public Enemies" was so disappointing and "Heat" is, of course, much much better!
I watched Whatever Works, the new Woody Allen. Brilliant dialogs as ever, some very funny scenes, but definitely not his best. I also watched Up, the new pixar movie. This is a really great movie. Some brilliant and really funny ideas.
Need to watch it again in the original language because I think the people behind the dubbed voices were really bored or something. But apart from that the movie was great.
inspired by the same story (sylvia likens) than Jack Ketchum's the girl next door, and way better imo. the two main characters are just way much more insipid in the girl next door. did i mention i'm in love with ellen page? ;-D
Last night I watched Baraka on bluray. Saw it so long ago (15 years?) I forgot the impact it had on me, and had it for a while on BD but finally sat down to watch it. Technically its stunning, the 70mm transfer is jaw-droppingly good. Dead Can Dance sound incredible in the new DTS-MA soundtrack.
The film/doc itself is amazing and I recommend you all watch it. no narration, just beautiful, stunning imagery from around the world, set to perfectly matched music. It does have an emotional impact on you watching it, it really drives home how diverse life is on this planet, and how much us humans are messing it all up. Awesome.
Hm I found The Girl Next Door absolutely horrible, I didn't even watch the movie to the end. I was even more shocked when I found out these events (more or less) really happened. I had been thinking the movie was total bs, as no "normal" person would be so ignorant to the suffering of someone else, and those in the movie were all little kids, they were not bad persons. I thought it was one of the typical modern "torture-porns" as they are sometimes called.
Yes really better ! Plus you got Ellen Page, Catherine Keener and James Franco. I did like you connectiv after watching An American Crime I went to Wikipedia just to see it it was "really" based on a true story and wow it was creepy!! ##Takes Brando's voice## The horror... the horror...
@them00ch Baraka, I loooove this documentary, such a mind and eyes opener, absolutelly stunning. Btw, did you see The Fall ? I liked it but there were too many things "copied" (maybe not but I have big doubts) from Baraka
Chrisy, I loved the fall, the little girl was amazing. I dont know about copied from Baraka, but Tarsem Singh did use some of the same locations. But why not, they are stunning :)

Inglourious Basterds. I will not say it's my favourite Tarantino, but there's so much to say about the film, the script, the dialogues... Looks like no other movie, for sure !
I watched Pranzo di Ferragosto last night. Normally i don't watch that kind of movies, but i went to the theatre with my parents. I have to say, it's a really good movie, and it's only 75 minutes long, a real treat. Gets you hungry:P
Thought it might be fun since I absolutely love The Good, The Bad and The Ugly... sadly, I was mistaken. This was one of the worst movies I've seen in quite a while.
I saw "Inglorious Basterds" in the cinema yesterday and wow that's entertainment... Much better than Tarantinos last movie "Death Proof", the dialog is so funny:)
I really liked the dialoges in IB, especially the opening scene. Landa is my new hero:P. Some interesting camera techniques also, but i have to say, IB doesn't match up to the hype they gave it, or to Pulp fiction imho
