well starvey, you are definitly right, that these ads don't belong to whatthemovie :) But as far as I know, we can't interfere with google, placing the ADs ...
Unfortunatly we don't have a lot of text on the site, google ads could adjust to :(
we could make some hidden content into the page. like
- randomly read and written keywords from imdb - randomly read and written actors/names/descriptions of movies - similar content related to anything like wtm.com
just for googles searchengines and stuff, to make ads more theme-fitting
Nope, no hidden text. Google (and Yahoo, and MSN bot, and Jeeves... that's 99.9% of the engnine traffic) hates it. Yet, if they look for content (you can't expect a bot to analyse a picture on its own, without any text, that's a fact), they still relay on keywords (meta tags) when they don't have enough material.
And about the Google Ads, once you go to the advanced administration, there's a part with excluded websites and keywords (I can't translate it for you since mine is in French and yours must be in german or english, but that's where all the campaign options are, with the language and everything). That's how I got rid of some strange stuff for my own "campaign" :D
Google text ads are worthless and will never make you guys any money. Research some alternate ad networks that can place graphical banners and work with the contact rep to categorize your account to entertainment related campaigns. That'll also help at some point if any of the studios don't like what you're doing. If they see that your site is running ads for entertainment related products they'll 1) be less likely to hassle you guys since you're a potential revenue stream and 2) be more likely to want to advertise with you guys directly for campaigns rather than through an ad network (if u got the traffic).
thanks for your valuable suggestions Starvey and warp1080 :) We'll look into the goole AD settings..
And warp1080, you are right about the ads, they bring in no money, 10 clicks for 100.000 impressions :/ it's a shame. We are already working on amazon links, which appear after you solved a movie and bring you directly to the specific DVD. This will hopefully work better.
Warp1080 has a point with the banner. Yet, it's up to us to make Google Ads worthy, I think. I click three or four times a day, just to say and support (I can't donate... well, I could, and probably will, but only as soon as I don't count every cent each month :D Yeah, my job sucks AND doesn't pay)
