I just got a shot rejected with 6.99 http://www.whatthemovie.com/shot/40300 I'm really sorry it got rejected :( as I kind of liked it... I was wondering if you think that this rating is the good way to go and if it is not kind of unfair ? For instance on your home page the other day you talked about users that gives bad rating on purpose... I would rather have some active members be allowed to rate the submissions (one that commit for example to a fair appreciation of their ratings) than this where I cannot see the point...
When I rate a snapshot I try to make a mix between quality of a the image, originality of the picture, angle, what the picture "says"... I thought my snapshot had all of that :(
Cotp Hope not all of my snaps will get rejected like this, cause it really doesn't help to encourage uploading...
There is no cut-off rate as such, as far as I know the shots with the highest ratings at the time of promotion to FF make it, and the others don't. So say there's 5 shots, 3 sixes, a 7 and an 8, whose 48-hour period ends at the same time, the 8 goes through, the rest don't. However, some shots with a lower rating get pushed through by mods, so they might end up in FF with a fairly low or even really low score.
Of course, I'm no expert, so I might be entirely wrong here, but that's how I understood it. :)
still sorry my snap didn't make it... well I'm sure I'll get over with anyway ;)
From what I understand of the system after reading the link above by them00ch one thing I find odd is that if two great images are at the same time only one will be taken...
Well I guess you guys must have thought it through...
Anyway it won't alter what I think of your site: it's just great work :)

Well no not really, theres a whole 24 hour period for the image to go through, and one is selected every 56 minutes. Perhaps read the post again :) And any great images that scruffy misses, the moderators may push through.
Dont be disheartened, we all have many rejected images that we thought were good, keep trying :)
Its early days for you at the moment, you have posted 3 images, one was accepted and 2 rejected. This ratio may improve/get worse yet ! :)
By the way how come when playing in the archive I came across snaps with no ratings ?? and they don't seem to be posted by supporters (my first guess was that they were Awesome Upload but I think you have to be a supporter for that)
Wow didn't think that one would get rejected http://whatthemovie.com/shot/41090 (7.11), well I guess I also could ask what's the highest rate you got on a rejected snapshot ? :) Could be a contest here... ahah 7.11 to beat :P
All right, I'll try and put another shot of that movie next time ...
I have a shot which got rejected with the score of 7,76.... http://whatthemovie.com/shot/40402 :) ... 7.11 is not that high, sometimes I believe shots gets rejected when they have nearly 8 or even a higher score than 8! :)
There is: use awesome uploads. Try to win the next competition, it gives a few.
What I think the problem is with your shots is this: Your interesting one, is indeed interesting, do more of those! Your second, well-known one is just boring, a simple face shot. Your third one looks blurry and doesn't really capture something for people who haven't seen the film.
Thanks Asmodai for your tips and recommendations... I agree with you. I think the key is to do an intersting shot of a famous movie, then you are almost sure it goes through... But I like to try some not so famous movies from time to time because I think that's waht makes this site intersting don't you agree ? Guess you're right, I'll use awesome uploads for the ones I like the best.
Hey cotp, remember people should be rating the shot and not the movie, so as long as the shot is interesting it shouldn't matter if it is a well known film or not. I agree its nice to do shots from films which arent so well known, its how I found out about a lot of movies here on WTM, films which I have gone on to buy and love.
I think Asmodai's critique is valid, the first shot was unlucky to miss, it was an interesting shot, so please don't stop trying to upload the shots from lesser known films, its what makes wtm so great!
Damn I got a rejected shot with 3 favourited http://whatthemovie.com/shot/42694 :P Never tried that before, but I must just find better shots, because I have great "opponents" :)
Hi Razzo. It was a great shot for a great movie (and a great body). High rating too. Difficult to understand if you compare it to some recent boring shots...
Yeah I think that too, but obviously people like those shots :S.. Yeah she has a very great body :D.. But 7,9 is not a high rating anymore I have found out :P
I dont think its very polite to highlight people's pictures and call them "boring". Its all subjective after all. The first one of that list was an "awesome upload" so didnt go through the NS process, havent checked the rest.
You're right them00ch. I deleted my boring list. Anyway I find that the global level of shots that reach the FF is very high and quite diverse (much more than what it was at the launching of WTM2), but there are still many boring headshots from mainstream not-so-good movies, while a lot of beautiful shots are eliminated. But I know that perfection is not in this world.
efji I agree with you that it is difficult now to get a shot accepted and would hope there would be another way.... hopefully there is still the magic of moderators !
Maybe there could be every month some kind of contest of rejected snapshots and we would vote for the ones we wish to save ;)
I know it's a head shot, got 7.30, but with such good reaction from the audience (never happened like this to me before), even though they are in french, I feel sorry for my shot http://whatthemovie.com/shot/42850 which was not accepted, sorry again snif :(
I whish there was a "Rejected snapshots" section where we could play on WTM !!!! :P
Suggestion: if we know there's no way we're gonna make it like this shot of mine http://whatthemovie.com/shot/43294 credited with 5.70, it could be intersting to le the uploader "delete" his/her file, so that he/she can upload again without waiting another 24 hours...
What do you think ? Is it an intersting idea ?
Cotp PS: By the way I knew it would get low rating but I wanted to post it since it's not that of a famous movie... Guess we should get 2 extra points if the movie is not famous to encourage posting of not so famous movies :P
Cotp, you might even suggest that low rated shots should remain another 48 hrs in submissions. This will force people to better try to find awesome shots that will be accepted. If a user can delete his/her shot, you can try and try and try and submit a lot of rubbish. So....
Not sure really what you mean pspan... Still we are limited anyway by the slots... Even if they did that (which is not the point) they would still have to wait 24h to get it through so there would be no point in doing that. My point was that when a shot you submited get low ratings and you have the feeling it won't be accepted you should have the possibility to change your mind and submit another one. But you are welcome to disagree :)
The first two were rejected today, and i am not optimistic on the last one...
Do I have to understand that members and moderators don't like EL. films ;) or is it just my snapshots ? I would like to have some advice FROM MEMBERS WHO continue posting from old b&w movies.
Believe me these movies are not easy to find an awesome shot, and sometimes the quality is bad because of the original copy itself. All these snaps have been made from original dvds and I took time to find a snapshot in each of them...
I know of M00ch comment above "Dont be disheartened, we all have many rejected images that we thought were good, keep tryin" and I agree but I can't help it: I become frustrated to see my Indiana Jones snapshots accepted and these not... What can I do ?
Do some members understand my frustration ?
I'll give it one last try and then I'm through with EL... too bad
Cotp PS: I think later I will use my awesome uploads when I want to post a black and white old movie, none were accepted for me till now, whereas I already got 8 out of 18 rejected...
Cotp, your shots are mainly 2 people talking with nothing more happening. I dont know the movies, and looking at them, I will be honnest, they look to me a bit boring as nothing is really happening and nothing that makes it interesting for someone like me who doesn't know the movies. Also nothing really good in a puzzle point of view. You have to understand that most of the time, (there are always exceptions of course) 2 people talking, close ups shots... have a smaller chance to make it unless there is something special about them and it has nothing to do with B&W, we have b&w shots making it to the FF everyday.
Thanks Chrisy for your comment, I tried to add two "puzzle shots", but not sure it will make it either... In this shot to me something was happening: http://whatthemovie.com/shot/41090 and this shot either http://whatthemovie.com/shot/41090 Of course if you've seen the movie you understand it better....
As for http://whatthemovie.com/shot/43662 I have to admit you are right, even though it's very difficult to get let's say an angle shot since this is not this type of movie directing... As for this one http://whatthemovie.com/shot/43658 it is at the end of the movie, and I like the joy in the actress face And for the last one which believe me is hard to find a good shot, they are both as I said in my shout talking to the camera (to the audience) which I found intersting enough...
Recently this shot http://whatthemovie.com/shot/43455 of mine was rejected. As you can see it had a rating of 7.80! Can anyone top that? This is quite frustrating. I was 100% sure that this is going to make it (who wouldn't?) and I was pretty shocked when I've read the bad notification from WTM.
