The percentages in the hall of fame are wrong. The absolute numbers and the respective percentages should be linearly dependent. But they're not.
The calculation of the percentage should be as follows: [percentage] = [number of movies solved] / [total number of movies] * 100 where [total number of movies] is the same factor for everyone.
Ok, great idea with subtracting the uploaded movies to get a fair percentage. But I think you should sort the list by this value then. So uploading a lot of movies would no longer be a disadvantage. ;)
"Spherix (405/4214 movies solved, 72 for highscore"
Highscore says: Of last month: 56 All time: 68 Contributors: nothing (i've uploaded about 45 stills, of which 13 are currently posted)
That isn't quite right imo, all time should be 405 and last month should also be 405, since my account is less then a month old, correct me if im wrong.
Only movies online for less than a month account for high score points because the older ones have a "show solution" button. You only have 72 high score points for the "all time" list. And the "films of the last month" list has nothing to do with the date when you solved it.
I currently have to fight really hard to defend my #1 position in the last month's hall of fame. It would be so much easier if it was sorted by percentage... ;)
switch the high score sorting from numbers to percentage?????
I'd say that is a strange way of sorting. that is if you only count the stills that you can solve for that % if you upload a lot, you' be (signifficantly) higher in the score list with the same amount of solved movies. I would see it as a strange "bonus" for uploading. it would give an incentive to upload more and we all know a great source for stills....
it only works on approved stills and it is the way we always intended it to be uploading is a good thing and we dont see, why we'd basically have our top uploaders screw themselves over
Quoting DiedEnFreek: "and we all know a great source for stills...."
To be honest, the only source I know is watching the movie – and as I don't own so many DVDs (most films I've seen in cinema or on TV) I'm grateful for those uploading, sometimes I get lucky and someone else bought the DVD with one of my favourite, yet not so well-known films …
And I think it's only fair to take the relative ratio of solved / solvable (all-uploaded) movies into account - I'm so far from Top 30 I don't really care anyways ;-)
I agree that it's best to give a bonus to the top uploaders (of course only approved ones count) than handicap them. However the system as it is is too complicated and it leads to a divergence of opinions because total and percentage don't match anymore.
Why not simply do as DiedEnFreek said and simply let people solve the movies they uploaded ? You don't even have to count them as solved automatically, simply remove the "you posted that one" special case so that the movie appears normally to the uploader and he can solve it as any other image. This would be much simpler (code-wise) and people would stop wondering about the apparent contradictions in the HoF.
Note however that it would give a slightly better bonus to the uploaders than it does at the moment, but consider that the same result would be obtained if they created another account and uploaded movies from that other account (although there wouldn't be one single account at the first place in both the top solver and top uploader as it is now if they used separate accounts).
Hey, this look really stupid. People with less points with a higher rank. I fail to see the logic. Before it was clear how many stills you had to solve to get higher, but that information is totally gone now.
Really, it look stupid, it's misconfusing. one solved still is one solved still, but how many stills is 0.2% ? You can only guess.
If you still have the old code, could you _at least_ (please, with sugar on top) make a "sort by" option so Big can be #1 in uploaders and solvers and everybody else knows 3 stils to pass the one before you is simply three stills?
I still think that we should count uploaded movies as solved. This would make everything easier. It would be slightly better for good uploaders (which I have no problem with) and clearer for everyone since percentage and points would always match. Besides, uploading on an alternate account would do just that (assuming you're slightly more subtle that the last one who did this and was found out because he had all the first solves...).
Yeah, I'd have no problem with that either. Maybe it would give me the incentive to finally upload some more movies. :P Although the rang has lost a bit of its importance to me ever since I fell so far behind over christmas and new years. ^^
i'm getting in a bit late in this discussion, but back to what spherix said: it says (1380/7228 movies solved, 775 for highscore) and the in the hall of fame appears only 292. (ohn, i want to be famous this way too.)
