I'm happy to announce 2 new contests in the near future. MisterZob's great Production Design contest will end this sunday and another regular (upload) contest will start one week later. After this contest, veteran player holynoise will host another great side quest. Feel honored if some of your snapshots suddenly disappear from Feature Films.
Let's get to the new upload contest:
We didn't do a poll this time, because this contest was on our minds for quite some time and it's a little bit different ;) it's called
DRAW THE MOVIE
You can use any means necessary, *but* a snapshot capture of your movie. It's time to pull out the old paint and get creative.
Things you can use: > pencil/pen on paper > paint, photoshop or any other program which will output a nice image > you can also manipulate a photo you took yourself, if it suits your movie
Things you can't use: > A snapshot of the movie (neither distorted or ran through any photoshop filters, etc)
Here are some additional rules: > 2 Uploads maximum per person (3 if you are a WTM Supporter) > ideal format would be 720 x 400 px since this would result in the biggest image.
To keep a high quality for this contest, we reserve the right to form a small jury at the end of uploading to sort out some low quality, unreasonable or uninspired snapshots.
Uploading will begin next Sunday (November, 29th, 20:00 CEST) Guessing will begin one week later (December, 6th, 20:00 CEST) and it the whole show will be running for 2 weeks (until December, 20th, 20:00 CEST)
Rewards are as usual:
1st = 15 awesome uploads 2nd = 10 awesome uploads 3rd = 5 awesome uploads 4th and 5th = 2 awesome uploads 6th till 10th = 1 awesome upload (for both Uploaders and Solvers)
If you have any questions, pose them right here and we try to come up with some answers :)
Awesome idea for a contest. I will show you my painting skills!
But some questions rising right now: Is it allowed to make your own version of a scene already uploaded to whatthemovie? (Don't have any inspiration yet, but would be nice to know when thinking of something)
Besides that, it would be really nice if you can somehow reserve a movie or allow more shots from the same movie, because drawing can take some serious time. It would be too bad if shots get deleted/can't be uploaded because of this (don't know if something like this can still be implemented).
damn.. think this will e a contest i won't enter... i'm just not that patient and talented... i'm not bad.. but not that good either ;) but really curious to see what comes out of the hands of my fellow players ;)
Same as Bazzy, I think it is a fantastic idea but I'm terrible at drawing and dont think I will have the time and patience to come up with something else, it would take me months lol. But I'm also very curious of what you all will come up with :)
you can post pretty much anything you come up with that results in an "image" drawing, phtography, stamping, printing, clay-modeling, heck if you want you can try to toast a slice of toast that looks like the deathstar
I really like the concept of this new contest, but I was just wondering... do we need to draw necessarily a scene from the film? I mean, can we create an image with elements from the film, without copying a still?
You can draw whatever you want, as long as someone recognizes the image from the movie.. PS: I think we should not use text in the image. Will make it too easy most of time. What do you think?
My guess would be The Village. The old people look sort of Amish, which resembles their life style, and they do it to protect their children -> they're being kept in a closed environment -> circle. Or am I interpreting too much into it? ^^
I've got another question about the Draw contest. does the image you draw have to be in the movie, or can it also be an abstract representation of for example the characters in the movie.
Please say yes, otherwise my (easy to make) idea will be ruined.
The idea is absolutely awesome!!! I feel highly creative and I already made 2 original snaps during office hours!!! Question: do I have to limit myself with only 3 snaps? Because it's terribly frustrating. Or do you mean I can upload more than 3 snaps and you choose 3 snaps maximum per person to enter the contest? Please clarify. Merci!
I think everything is allowed as long as you don't use a snapshot or image from the movie (But it would be nice if a moderator or admin could confirm or rectify this)
So what's the stance on acting out a scene, and taking a picture? Is that okay, or should at least some editing be involved? I don't actually plan on doing this, just out of general curiosity.
And because I felt like taking this picture, to be honest:
So for the record, I don't plan on using that shot or anything of the sort, I'm going to use my (Extremely limited) MS Paint/pencil skills to try and cobble something together.
I've been working on a picture for about 4 days... I'll be sitting in front the pc at 4 pm (Brazil Summer Time) in order not to lose the slot! Have no idea about the second one though
I have a question, too. What about taking an original screenshot as a basis and tracing it without automatic filters or something like that? Is that allowed?
