Yes, some DVD prints are worse than others. My "The Abyss" DVD is pretty awful for example. But that's splitting hairs, the replacement feature is for the shots which are obviously not DVD quality.
It is better quality, but your new shot has black bars that werent there before.
When replacing shots can you all please take time to remove the black bars. May seem petty but as we are fixing the image we might as well make sure we aren't introducing any new flaws or someone will just have to reupload it again anyway.
Doh, sorry about that. Just checked my snaps, I took 2 shots of that scene, chose one that looked the best, removed the bars on that one, but accidentally uploaded the other one. Just tried uploading the correct one, but it gives me an error everytime. I guess a shot can either be replaced only once, or only once per user? In case it's the latter, here's the new shot so someone else can try it: edit: DONE
@Aralis: I replaced #19314 ( http://whatthemovie.com/shot/19314 ). However, my DVD has not very good quality either. At least the aspect ratio is right now.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the other two Dirty Harry shots. The captures from my DVD look worse.
I would appreciate if somebody could replace my Mallrats shot (#4212, http://whatthemovie.com/shot/4212 ). I really can't understand today what I was thinking at the time of uploading :(
Replaced it. The AR of my DVD is a little bit different as it seems, but as it only concerns a small area on the left and right I think it should be okay.
I think that replacing title shots could also be useful. For example both "Legion" shots are awful - http://whatthemovie.com/movie/legion/snapshots (added long before the dvd premiere) ;)
If the shot has a quite blurry quality and black bars, can I update it for a better one with no BB? Or do I need to wait for the person who posted to ask for the replacement?
I'm not quite shure about replacing #443 - http://whatthemovie.com/shot/443 The quality would increase, but because of the motion in this scene it would still be very blurry:
http://whatthemovie.com/shot/165 Someone has DVD of Superbad? To me the shot seems blurry, but I have the HDDVD version and if I make the shot its much more crisp. Can somebody check if its DVD quality?
Ups replaced it with not the same shot, I will find the correct one.. And now I get an error trying to correct it :P Do'h I'm foolish! What shall I do?
Just replaced my own shot http://whatthemovie.com/shot/33074, removed the black bars, they has bothered me since I uploaded the shot. I had been waiting for an open slot, and when the slot was open (I timed it) I had company over, so I didn't pay close enough attention to the shot.
Razzomega, seems like my DVD is a little bit sharper. Well I made a new shot, another possibility would be to revert the update and you use my new shot since you also invested some time and effort to get update the shot which I think should be honored :)
Also, could somebody replace this shot from Postal? http://whatthemovie.com/shot/446 I don't know the movie, but I believe the quality should be way better.
I agree on the awful quality of all these shots, but I think that would be a shame to lose them. That was the very beginning of the game and of course the quality standards was not the same as what they are now, and I think we should find a system to avoid their deletion until they are replaced by better ones.
I don't know what you think but I just wanted to give my opinion :)
