I added the replaceplease on that Hellboy shot, I thought I saw a whole bunch of artefacts and fuzzy edges, but I just checked and I think it was just because of my shitty monitor on that other computer.
I can't remember if it has been discussed, but what with movies which have been released in different aspect ratios like Peter Pan: http://whatthemovie.com/movie/peter_pan/snapshots ? Should they be replaced with the "correct" aspect ratio like this: From WTM:
"Original":
I'm pretty sure that it's the same scene, just unbelievable. Edit: It would look much better on the movie page :P
Yeah it's missing a ship, unbelievable. But then a lot of shots should be replaced from that movie, because half of them is in the wrong aspect ratio... :P! If I get permission her, I will replace it ;). Another shot from that movie, where we only see little on the shot: WTM shot:
Original:
(not exactly the same) Edit: It seems that they have pretty strange dvd's in Brazil, that is just too weird :P
@Razzomega They put "FULL SCREEN" in the DVD cover, like it's a good feature. People not familiar with cinema read that and think...ful screen, no black bars, more image!
I think that for each aspect-related shot you should get permission from the uploader. Just upload the shot somewhere, and leave him/her a shout with a link to your suggested replacement and a small explanation why you want to replace it.
I'd pretty much love if everything was released in widescreen format here. I think producers think that, for not being Europe or US, they can just sell us everything in a crappy way like no one's gonna care. That pisses me off...all my Disney DVDs are in that square aspect ratio, and they're not even cheaper for that '¬¬
@Asmodai: I think you're right, I looked for snaps for some movies and all shots have the same aspect ratio. But for other movies, like Robin Hood, there are different ratios. And I got the ugliest one ^^' another exemple is Once Upon a Time In America. My version is the oldest one released here, fullscreen format, and there was another version released laters that's widescreen (and the image has been treated as well). Gotta get that one eventually =) For older DVDs, there's other annoying things, like the lines of coulours that appear in some frames during movement scenes.
Anyways, thank you for pointing that out, would probably never think about that on my own ^^'
Now I was bored and then I have replaced some shots with the tag "replaceplease". People should be aware with tagging a shot with "replaceplease", this one isn't bad quality: http://whatthemovie.com/shot/90
Another Gattaca shot which was tagged as replaceplease, it has tiny bars, but the quality seems to be okay, replaced it anyway, then you can revert if wanted: http://whatthemovie.com/shot/267 Old:
The Little Miss Sunshine is much better I think. Look at the guys arm who's crying. The first has artifacts just above it on his shirt, the second doesn't have that.
