Mine is definitely American History X. The film drowns in clichés, is over-simplistic and has an embarrassingly tear-jerking score which just got on my nerves. No wonder director Tony Kaye washed his hands of it.
Many many for me: Brazil, Big fish, Nightmare before christmas, The ten commandments, Viaggio in Italia, Last tango in Paris, The ladykillers, Léon, Paris je t'aime, Die Unendliche Geschichte and of course all the Night Shyamalan's movies (saw yesterday the preview of the next one: terrible !).
Titanic, the movie gets a bit better when the ship sinks, the rest is 3 hours of whining. Concentrate on how many times she says "Jack" and that alone will ruin the movie for you.
everybody knows that titanic was shit it makes a lot of money because of all the teenage girls who went 4 a 5 times to the cinema to see Leonardo Dicaprio its like the twilight movies its like the robert pattinson phenomenon
Oh I didn't say I particularly hated the movie, just thought it was really overrated. There was so much fuss about it before it even came out that when I finally got to see it I was well.. disappointed. @theoffice911 Don't hate us! ;))
@LordMyst Do you think that Alice is an overrated movie? I always hear that Alice is a bad movie. Nobody estimes that movie
As far as I'm concerned I agree that Avatar is overrated. Ok this movie is beautiful but ...boring! I add to my list: "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain", "Flags of our fathers", "The crow", "Top Gun" (but is it really estimated?), "Benjamin Button", "Unbreakable", "Easy Rider" (sorry Dennis) annnnd "Shrek"
According to my IMDb list : To understand the context in all my IMDb ratings, I have : + 61 movies --> 10/10 + 59 movies --> 9/10 + 142 movies --> 8/10 So basically a movie with 8-9 or 10 is on my top250 ! A 7 means I really liked the movie A 6 means it's a good little movie but not great A 5 means it's not that bad but I didn't like it A 4 means it's bad A 3 means "damn that sucks" A 2 means "are you kidding me?" A 1 means "Watching my grass growing would have been better"

OH.. I just so like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It stays a personal thing. Everyone experiences a movie differentely.
For me it's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Some cool shots and ideas but for me there happens just a low amount of things. Also with the weird monoliths. I probably just don't understand.
Pff I'd rather see what everyone things is underrated. Then you would get movies that someone appreciates whereas I probably won't watch it because it has a too low mark on imdb.
@krukev You're allowed to start your own topics here ;)
OT: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - one of the least funny movies I ever saw and it gets a 7.3 on IMDB Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - I haven't seen the others, but I thought the first movie was really boring. Halloween (1978) - Also really boring.
@shalev : I like Zooey Deschanel ! And I like Mark Wahlberg too, not as an actor I think he kinda sucks but I'm a huge fan of the TV show : ENTOURAGE ! So it's hard for me to be mean to them lol Plus I liked this scene : the quality sucks but I like how the driver's body fly (when this is the best moment in a movie, you know it sucks !)
PS: I don't think a 5.2/10 movie on IMDb can be seen as "over-rated" obviously people didn't like it !
For me Gone with the wind - I do not know how many times I started to watch it - horribly bored ... Braveheart- really do not understand all this fuss Titanic - I waited the whole movie until the ship sinks
Requiem for a Dream - probably i took not enough drugs to understand it?! ;) Memento - good movie, but not that "WOW AWESOME" as the imdb list indicates (28.?! wtf?! :D) Up - 15 great minutes at the beginning, followed by 80 minutes boredom - bad ratio ;)
@ LordMyst That is a fact, and nobody argues with you :) But it still was overrated. Also on my list, The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons. Also the Hangover, wow that was so not funny. (exept for the chinese guy and "the one man wolfpack")
napoleon dynamite is one of those cases that if you can't get it, you can't see the buzz around it. i think its deeply American street humor, and i don't blame Europeans for not getting it right. to me it's absolutely amazing from start to finish, from the first line to the last and all the little decoration in the movie. cult classic.
2001: a space odyssey, is purely a reference movie. one needs to think how much of a visionary person Kubrick was. it really is a masterpiece, not all cinema is action and fast moving pace. some movies are slow and thats the point.
Amelie: i personally think it's way too nice to even consider over estimating it. it's just tooooo sweet and well executed, both in direction and acting.
my overestimated movie is Reservoir Dogs, and definitely the Wrestler, which halfway through the movie i thought i had seen it before. Flooded with cliche's, despite the fact that Arronofsky is a genius.
talk about Flooded with cliche's.. how about gran torino? what a piece of shit whas that?! i knew what would happen in about 3 seconds... but no one else mentioned it so it's probably me!
The Godfather 1/2/3: decent acting, but masterpieces? No. Cruel criminals can be family men too. So? LotR 1/2/3: no idea why people like this. Childish and pompous. Totally uninteresting and never-ending battle scenes.
Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) I mean the movie isn't bad, I would have given a decent 7/10. But not a "woua! this deserves a 8.5/10 and 56/250 on IMDB" ;)
same goes with Forrest Gump. Not bad but totally overated
