Dear fellow WTM-ers,

What is happening?

When I first found out about WTM I absolutely loved it: a couple of guys came up with a great idea and they turned it into a fantastic website that’s accessible to anyone. For free! I loved the community: a bunch of movielovers who all seemed to be more than willing to show you around the place. I loved the fact that people are free to come up with something as crazy as a penis shot mission; and the fact that others are free to downvote any shot with a penis in it if they feel like it. I loved the fact that some people are willing to moderate us, a bunch of harmless idiots, if things start to deviate from the friendly nature of WTM. I also loved Palahniuk’s contests, for me a great bonus to WTM. I really appreciated that people were willing to spend so much of their time and energy so that others, strangers, could have a good time.

Lately however it seems to me that a lot of WTM-ers are not so friendly anymore. People accuse each other of foul play, shoutcrapping, downvoting…. Fellows suddenly quit WTM or just delete all their shouts and then ignore you… And the tone of some comments on the forum just take the fun out of WTM.

Now I agree with all of you that we’re entitled to our own opinions and should definitely speak up if we think things could or should be better, but can we also agree to do it without the insults, threats, swearing and metaphorical kicking and screaming?

I love spending a bit of time on WTM after a hard day’s work to play the game and laugh at silly comments or discuss movies. It’s a game, a hobby, and those should be fun right? Let’s keep it that way, in honour of those who were generous enough to set up this website for us.

I called all Paris to finally find a baby-sitter two floors underneath my flat !

It is a sign from the Universe.

And it’s Friday night.
So I run to a party very talk-of-the-town.

There’s a lot of models (especially a tall chinese bombshell who iPhone me all her coordinates before running away for her beauty sleep).

But there is ALSO this huge Crystal Bowl with a Red Thing in it, tons of ice and a Silver Dipper to help yourself.

“I need a refreshment”, I conclude.

So I test the --- Red Thing.
It’s fruity and fresh. Soft and tasty.

Exactly what Palahniuk needs.
A CLASSY DRINK !

I spot a potential audience on a sofa.
I sit, then put the Crystal Bowl on the table and I talk about my plans to revolutionize 3D porn.

And I refill my glass and sip it like Champagne.

Woaw !
I feel good.
I feel powerful.

Where’s my glass, damn !

Thanks God, someone had the idea of the dipper.

I take the Crystal Bowl under my arm, chit-chat here and there, calming my thirst with the help of my best friend : the Silver Dipper.

Suddenly, I realize it’s late.
The ice has melted and the drink is now pinky.

I say goodbye to everyone and I’m out of here !

Back to my place.
I slap 50 euros inside the palm of the baby-sitter.

And turn on the computer.

On screen, I discover someone voted super low on one of my beloved snap.

I SEE RED.

I want blood.
I even salivate for it.

I should have taken the bowl and the dipper with me.

But I wanna joke around too.

So I flood a forum demanding the name of the culprit.

And I’m ready to go to bed.

But suddenly --- on my very wall ---

--- I see a shout from Asmodai saying something about banning me.

I just see the word : BAN.

Silence.

My vision blurs.

Where’s my Ikea Design knife ?

What the hell this kid is talking about ?

He’s always on my neck like a fly !

That’s it !!!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!!

Nobody bans Palahniuk !

“I’m gonna close my account !” I yell. “Before a punishment procedure get in my way !!!”

Doing that I think : “if Asmodai lives in Utrecht, I swear I’ll find him and break his fingers one by one singing in his ear Let’s Fall In Love. He will not be able to touch a keyboard for at least two months !”

Now I understand what happened.
Because I now know what was inside that Crystal Bowl.

And it makes me laugh.

Almost.

Because I still have a problem with YOU, Asmodai.

I never ever had any problems with any mods in all my life on any sites (even political sites where I shout things you wouldn’t dare to believe). Here, I don’t have conflicts with Chrisy, MisterZob, Kinoute, Them00ch, Naut, Tliff.

I see you as a guy who has a problem with power and WTM is not the place where you can use power. It’s a community thing.

What is a community ?

It’s like a woman.
You think she surrenders all powers to you but in fact she owns you.

The community owns you.
You don’t own the community.

It means you can’t take unilateral decisions. Decisions on your own.

Yesterday, you could have shouted a nice warning like : “hey, I don’t get what you’re trying to do but the rules forbid them. Can you delete your spams please ?”

But no.

You ban me, close a topic about me THEN shout on my wall.

This is a rape.
And I’m not the kind of guy you rape.

There’s ALWAYS a second layer behind any scandals.

When you asked me if I was willing to create some free designs for WTM tee-shirts, I answered within 24 hours. I said yes against the guarantee we’ll make it for real because it’s real work we’re talking about. Since then (18 days !), you didn’t care to answer !

Unbelievable.

I was thinking for a couple of days you were talking about it with Naut and Tliff.

But no !

You just told me you had no time to answer when I asked you if you received my e-mail.

And now, suddenly you have plenty of time to find a way to ban me on a Friday night with no warning ?

This kid is actually lecturing me about my behaviour.

Wow toffetomas, what a long comment and i agree with you (not on all parts). But you know maybe it is a mentality thing. But i can understand palas reaction. It is Not about taking a two days shouting ban, it is the ban itself. If it would have happend to me my reaction would have been "you f*cking son of a b*tch, who the fuck are you to BAN me? Noone bans me, noone!!!" and the anatolian blood in my veins would have initiated the "blind rage" mode i would have started the car and when i would have reached my destiny i would have done things without thinking of the consequences. What i am trying to say is, mentalities differ and make us do things others cannot understand. Especially on such an international site like WTM. Some people have huge pride issues whereas you can spit into others faces and they will think it is a warm summerrain...
The reaction of the germans here was funny as hell in my eyes. "he violeted the rules" yeah like seriously, what harm did he do to the site? Did he put a virus somewhere and make it collapse? Come on, take the stick out of your asses...

Well and before i forget it. Please no more jews-german comparison. I think we all know there weren't both sides. The germans industrialised the killing of millions, no matter if old, young, woman or man. End of the discussion.

About the german-jew thing, dont take it too serious, it was a joke (not the war, but my comparison), just a classical dutch joke, nothing more, nothing less. (If you didnt see that it probably says more about you than you think... )

Sorry, i cant help it, the topic is just such a rich source for joke material. I know its a bit easy, its not like you have to squeeze hard to get the last joke out of it. They just pop up in my head, one after the other. I try to keep them in, but sometimes they just get out and before you know it the joke has been made, whether you like it or not.
Dont think i like it, i mean nobody's laughing, people are offended and they look strange at me. Thats ok, im used to it. You don't have to laugh, i mean it would be polite, but you dont have to. But not even seeing it was just a joke, or asking me to censor my own words, well that just makes me feel so uncomfortable. It's just not nice. Didn't your parents teach you any manners? Dont you ever think about other people?

Sometimes people even get angry, now thats the world upside down. If anyone should be angry its me, cause I'm not funny, i know, but at least i try. I'm doing an effort here and all i get is this? Unbelievable! (please think before you say something, its not neccesary to hurt peoples feelings).

(but still, those jews must have done something, cause you dont get killed for nothing, and it was not like an impulse thing, it was thought through. I mean the organisation that was behind it, systematically tracking them down and transporting them to camps and stuff. Maybe history books don't teach us, but there must be something, they must have done something. Also it wasn't the first time, then you could think they just had bad luck. But no, history is full of war and persecution against jews, and all for no reason? No, i dont believe that crap, it just doesn't add up. The planning, the organising, the execution of it, it must have been hours of work. You dont work for hours on something and kill millions of jews without a good reason, i mean that wouldn't make any sense. They must do something wrong, it just follows from some basic logic. Pierre Desproges made many jokes of that kind in the 80's in France. He was controversal but damn funny. He even had a collumn in Charlie Hebdo called "Les étrangers sont nuls". But nowedays he would be called a racist probably. In France, all those jokes became taboo. Well then I'm glad I live in Holland and can still laugh about the unlaughable

The main problem with this particular joke was that it was maid in a long, serious message. You can't say "One more thing i want to add, hopefully on a more serious note" and be surprised that people think you're serious.
Otherwise I love jew jokes! I love South Park lol
Anyway : it's no big deal as long as it's a joke.

I even love the irony here, we're talking on this topic because of Palahniuk being censored by a moderator, and in the same time we're talking about the fact that's it's ok to say awful things about Jews, as offended as it can be, and that censorship is a bad thing. That seems funny!
You can say that the Jews deserved to die during WWII and no one will give you a ban... but you can not say "Asmodai-dïe-die" or post 25 shouts in 10min!

You can make "Dutch Humor" with your friends, around a good beer... but not with everybody !! we're on a public domain !! hundreds of people (so everybody) can read that on a site which is absolutly not devoted to that... that's the problem. You will always find people that think that indeed what says tomas is right... without humor. So I think this forum is not the place for that. That's all. And yes I love Desproges's humor too, but Desproges is Desproges and everybody knows what was his way, the same with "Charlie Hebdo", they were clearly identified, here it's different. This kind of humor must be used very carefully, that all I want to say OK ?

It may not be Dutch humor but what I have learned here was that many humorist jokes in holland would simply be censured in france, Theo Maassen for example. People would feel very offended
