I noticed a boost in forum and site activity in the last couple of days, which is great :) This is probably due to the loads of new movies every day.
I think only few of you know of our IRC channel, which is generally poorly visited :(
I see this post as encouragement to all of you, to join the channel, and chat with us :) Sure, a forum is great, but lots of problems and stuff is far better solved and discussed in a realtime chat :)
So, what is this mysterious IRC chat, and how am I able to participate, you might ask.
1. At first you have to download an IRC chat client. On windows I recommend mIRC: http://www.mirc.com, on a MAC I recommend Colloquy: http://www.colloquy.info 2. Then you have to chose "quakenet" in the list of servers to connect to (irc.quakenet.org) 3. Finally, join our room #whatthemovie and relax. No entry fees.
If anyone has problems with these three steps, feel free to post your problems here. I'll try my best to help you :)
Now, everybody join. This is a command! (The first arrivals get free vodka martini)
Hi there ppl. =) I joined the channel but I'd like to ask something, if you don't mind. It's been a long time - years and years - since I used to log on mIRC and it seems that everyone only chats through PMs. I was a little shy to bring it up with someone there, so I came here. :D Thanks.
we have joined a religion called "idling" basically we sit there and dont talk unless someone else talks so just ask something or say something or slap someone with a trout
Oh god...they still do that? When I started chatting, back in '94 (there was no MSn, there wasn't even ICQ yet), we slapped with trouts. 15 years later, that smelly thing still gets used, lol!
Oh, and we're pretty serious about this "idling" thing (religiously serious) so even if you do say something, you might have to wait some time before someone does answer (we're usually in some idling trance that lasts hours so don't be in a hurry).
I downloaded Miranda http://www.miranda-im.org/ to try and join the chat But I am having problem to connect to the chatroom and I can't see other members online. Is anyone else using Miranda ? Since I found it on Google to auto join a room I added "/join #whatthemovie" in the Advanced option But I don't kwow something seems to be wrong
I did "Open chat window" got this "[12:15] Welcome to the QuakeNet IRC Network, Cotp [12:15] Your host is port80c.se.quakenet.org, running version u2.10.12.10+snircd(1.3.4a) " then a lot of blablabla then "[12:15] There are 21 users and 86221 invisible on 43 servers [12:15] 78 operator(s) online " last instructions are "[12:15] Notice from port80c.se.quakenet: on 1 ca 1(4) ft 20(20) [12:15] +i [12:15] Cotp sets mode +i [12:18] No such nick: port80c.se.quakenet.org" And I don't manage to see u guys :( Anybody help ?
If the site goes down, the traffic doubles in the IRC channel, but everyone leaves when the site is back up :( IRC isn't just for downtime! Come spend some time with us all in #whatthemovie
Visiting us in IRC will reward you with: -random inane conversations -backstage gossip! -people joining, saying "HELLO? NEEDS HULP!" and then quitting immediately! -ohlookbirdies (aka sebas) great (and some not so great) jokes -some (not enough) movie talk -the occasional trivia quiz -blackjack with Errorgator -notification when a shot hits FF -immediate help and advice from moderators/admins and other users if you need it.
And some other things. I realise I'm not exactly selling this very well, but really, come and join even if you just idle in there.
Yes, it is :) And nothing impractical about it, IRC has the advantages that it's light, mult-platform and intended to use for broad chats. Also, we don't host the chat on the WTM-servers, which is good for reducing the load.
