As far as the previously discussed dupe - the rules state that you should take a shot from the same scene as a previous shot, not just that they should be the same exact shot. Based on this, I think it should be considered a dupe. The point is not that you can use one to find the answer to the other. It is just that anyone who gets the first one is going to get the second one too.

Along the same line, I consider this http://whatthemovie.com/shot/22505 to be a dupe of this http://whatthemovie.com/shot/19314 . Does anyone else agree, or am I on my own now.

For some reason that example doesn't bother me . . but I see what you are saying . . . I guess I consider the shots just different enough . . . but I would understand it being deleted as a dupe if it was my upload . . . I think the same thing happened recently with 2 shots from Lock, Stock . . .

Please don't post here links for non-exact dupes. If the new snapshot finally gets through, there'll be no fun in guessing it.
Don't do it in your deletion-vote comment either, just drop a shout if you can.

    From the upload page:
Don't upload a snapshot from the same scene or with similar content (e.g. the same character).

This may not be the same scene, but it's definitely similar content.

honnestly, I really dont see these as dupes, if you didn't post them here, I wouldn't have automatically made the link... With shots from animations especially, there is a big chance you will find the same characters sometimes, I think dupes should be really shots that look similar, this is not the case here imo

I don't know, if we started enforcing the rule that dupes include the same character in different scenes, it would get rid of Johnny Depp completely ;-)

I see your point that the same characters will appear with animations, but this makes them extremely easy. This is because there are a small number of shots on the site that are animation, and they can easily be found with the 'anime' or 'animation' tags. So you can just search for these tags, and find which previous shots have the same characters (this isn't how I did it - I just remembered the previous shot). You can even compare the number of languages in an anime movie to archived movies to figure it out, which may mean the problem is with the tags and not with dupes.

;-) I happen to know the title but this specific shot doesn't show on the movie's page, I think the uploader might have looked there and then thought the scene's still free.

What's nice though: Many movies seem to have key scenes which are appreciated by wtm-ers equally.

There was a previous shot with this character in the same scene, but was a slightly different shot (included another character). Should this be considered a dupe?

I guess we need to make the reason for deleting duplicates clear. Should we delete duplicates:
    1. so that it's not too easy to guess a shot by looking for similar shots in the archive.
    or
    2. just to make sure the exact same shot is not uploaded twice.

I personally think two shots from the same scene in a movie with the same characters should be considered dupes, even if they are doing different things. This is to prevent easy solves and to reduce the number of shots from each film. If only the same exact shot is considered a dupe, then we will end up with 100 shots of Fight Club and Aeon Flux before too long.

I see what you mean about this shot Astrododo but in my view, this is not a dupe, there is a very long moment with more than one scene in this movie where we see this character(s) in the same place and here he is doing something very particular which makes the shot special imo. But I understand some might consider this differently... and I agree the dupe thingy should be better clarified
But to be honnest the more Fight Club and co posted now, the less there will be available later, cause people will be running out of shots eventually ha ha :)

I loaded it again without black bars... and it's about to be deleted as dupe... I can't see the dupe either in the list of shots of the movie, nor in FF... I guess the one voting remember my first attempt yesterday. Or is there really a dupe ? Can someone show me the dupe ?
