This is a temporary solution and there is no 100% effective solution against GI. But i agree with you, we can maybe make a contest without prizes for now and we'll see after how it goes when i'll add more & more protections against those tools.
@kinoute yes a small contest just to see how it goes now... Perhaps chose a theme which make the GI's use more difficult, shots with close-up, details or without actors (well known actors of course) are often more dificult for GI... I remember themes like "legs and feet" or others that might be difficult to solve with GI...
I agree this is the only real contest where GI is useless but we can't make two in a row, its too much :/
Nobody has others ideas ? I think "Legs & Feet" is great personally. I'm pretty sure we can find a theme on the last pages here where GI/Tineye wont be so powerful.
I think draw the movie once per year is good. It's kind of a tradition to do it in October. If you do it too often, some movies will be used multiple times and they won't be very original.
Good subjects that are (more) difficult with GI:
Legs & Feet Phones Guns
Subjects with probably beautiful shots, but also easier to find with GI:
I agree, no draw the movie contest again please for quite some time...we have such a big list of so many good suggestions, so let's use them and bring some diversity into the contests.
Personally I would love to see a scene transition contest one day, but I am fine with really any subject from the list. :)
What about a video clip contest for change? And there's a lot of famous directors from the video clips who passed into cinema but maybe it will be too much tricky to make it feasible with the database!
so : - books - people from back - agree with Elinka, a not that one could be great! - TV in movies - cinema in movies (people watching movie in a cinema) - painting in movies - monsters - clocks - a color contest? about one color for example or a couple of colours? - flora in animation movies, or another theme especially in animation movies
Not saying that we can't do them again, since these came from the start of the vault (one technically predates it...), but just reminding that some topics have already been done.
The color vault was really great. It was the first one on wtm if I remember well (or the second one after "shadows"). It could be a good idea to make a contest based on a single color. And maybe less boring than large series of feet or clocks.
Yes colors are a good idea ... Spring is coming soon with yellows, flashy greens, and deep violet blue ...I was also thinking to the art motifs like carpets, materials, wall tile (for exemple the scene of the restaurant in "the man who knows too much"). Even scarfs or curtains ... If there is a "living" detail , like hands, foots , animals, plants ... even dead body or anything else that reminds us something more than a special design , more fun !
I think silhouettes would make a very nice theme. Just look at some of the shots with the silhouette tag http://whatthemovie.com/search?page=1&q=silhouette&t=tag . But i don't know how good GI would work on that kind of a theme. And no: Silhouettes are not the same thing as shadows.
Maybe some "movie in movie" contest could be also something where GI is less powerful
For example a famous scene of a movie which is shown in another movie...when you use GI it will probably show you the original movie but not the correct movie with this movie reference. (at least when this scene is in full frame)
When it comes to colours I would agree with efji that we should make contests regarding one colour, for example smaller contests like "Red", "Blue", "Green", "Yellow" etc.
More normal themes I like to see one day: - underwater - crying beauties - Silhouettes - upside down - tattoos - famous people - money & jewelry - Gore 2 :)
@kinoute "So what we know : it's gonna be a contest without prizes"
i hope no prizes is just for solver, not also for uploader
and now as you wanted, here my opinion. i am not an GI expert, i tried it just sometimes... so i am not sure, but i think this themes should be not totally easy for GI:
- Money, Gold bullion and Jewellery - Underwear (no faces allowed to see too) - Interstates/Streets etc. at birdeyes sight (i think its really hard to use GI for it, because you find it not only in movies, you find it everywhere in holiday pictures etc.) - same with "planes" and - "clock and watches"
Also like: - Underwater - Silhouttes/Skylines - Fading
With these monochrome shots the (unwritten) rule always was that they should be solvable. The color of the shot has to make sense in regard to the movie.
efji: exactly my point, all those shots are perfectly solvable :) Maybe the third one less, but the black and orange ones are totally logical solutions.
yes some easy ones, but last time i saw some monochrome shots in NS, which run out of time with 0 or 1 solver... its annoying if you try 10-15 logical movies and nothing works
- Color(s) - Transitions - Landscapes/Skylines (dunno if its an unique or two different themes) - Close-ups - Legs & Feet - Underwater - Silhouettes - Transports - Animals - ?
Do i need to add more ? About the color(s) theme, i really dunno, i mean if we have to choose one color or let the uploader decide. Efji, you're talking about boring themes, is a theme with only one color won't be boring ...? At least the vault made by Chrisy was great, with a lot of different colors, see the amazing overview : http://whatthemovie.com/vault/4/overview
Or i could add two different themes, One color, and colors ?
